On August 5, 2023, the University of the Philippines Arirang successfully organized the ‘Philippine-Korean Youth Forum (PKYF)’ at the UP School of Statistics Auditorium, bringing together Filipino and Korean youth for a day of education and cultural exchange. The event aimed to foster connections and encourage collaboration between the two communities while providing a platform for discussing matters of mutual concern.
The theme for this year’s forum, “CROSSOVER: Reimagining and Embracing the Future,” underscored the challenges of linguistic and face-to-face interaction faced by both Filipino and Korean youth. The goal was to overcome these barriers and establish relationships, acquire new information, and exchange thoughts and solutions as they collectively navigate the evolving global landscape.
The event kicked off with registration starting at 12:30 PM, attended by delegates, partner representatives, UP Arirang staff/members, and fans of the guest performers. The venue featured various booths showcasing merchandise, hanbok (traditional Korean clothing), arts and media, culture and tourism, and economy and trade. Denisse Jonel Pavia, Overall Coordinator, delivered the opening remarks, officially commencing the program. To engage the audience, fans had the opportunity to participate in on-stage games.
Several teams from different schools took the stage to present their track outputs, highlighting their contributions to the theme and the forum’s objectives.
The musical performances added an extra layer of excitement to the event. The rookie P-pop group, “Yes My Love,” known as the Vocal Heartstoppers, graced the stage, performing their latest singles, ‘Yayakapin’ and ‘Rhythm.’ Another talented Filipino pop group, the Female Alphas from G22, represented Cornerstone and showcased their abilities with songs ‘Bang’ and ‘Boomerang.’ In between their performances, the groups also engaged in entertaining games to further connect with the audience.
The climax of the evening was the performance by the powerhouse idol group, “Press Hit Play” (PHP), under Superb Us Entertainment. PHP delivered an electrifying show with their songs ‘Tell Me’ and ‘Balaraw,’ leaving the audience in awe of their talent and stage presence.
The ‘Philippine-Korean Youth Forum 2023’ succeeded in its mission to bridge the gap between Filipino and Korean youth, fostering a deeper understanding of each other’s cultures and aspirations. It served as a testament to the power of cultural exchange and collaboration in shaping a brighter future for both communities.
The organizers and participants expressed their gratitude for the success of the event and looked forward to more opportunities for cross-cultural engagement in the future, believing that such initiatives would further strengthen the bonds between the Philippines and South Korea.
